Founded in 1942, Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College stands as a beacon of educational empowerment for the Muslim community in the Malabar region of Kerala. Established by the visionary scholar and reformist Abussabah Ahmed Ali (1906-1971), this institution was among the first to cater to the educational needs of the community, transforming lives through knowledge.
History and Vision
Abussabah Ahmed Ali, a distinguished alumnus of Al Azhar University, returned to India in 1935, driven by a passion to uplift the educationally backward sections of society. His dream was to establish an academic hub that could provide education from primary to advanced levels. This dream materialized in 1942 with the founding of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College at Anakkayam near Manjeri. The college began as one of the first affiliated Arabic colleges in Kerala and has since grown into a recognized center of academic excellence.
A dedicated committee, the Rouzathul Uloom Association, was formed in 1946 to support the college’s expansion and realize the founder’s vision. Initially affiliated with Madras University and later Kerala University, the college is now under the University of Calicut, aided by the Government of Kerala. In 2008, it was included under sections 2f and 12B of the UGC, and it holds minority status as recognized by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, New Delhi.
